Article updated at 27 Sep 2012

Thermal throttling means reducing the CPU frequency if a high temperature occurs. Thermal throttling is handled by BIOS functions which are using Micro Code from Intel.

The temperature limit on which the CPU starts throttling (warning temperature) can be set by the User in the BIOS.

This feature is available for the Menlow platform based on Z5xx and US15W. BIOS versions later than:

  • R0PA0019.BIN (Robin Z510/Z530 512MByte RAM)
  • R2PA0019.BIN (Robin Z530 1GByte RAM)

are supporting thermal throttling. The newest BIOS can be downloaded here: Robin Downloads
