This page is intended to help customers to set up their manufacturing process for a Robin based design.
During manufacturing, the following tasks may be implemented:
- Customer may program a BIOS configured according to his needs, See Clone CMOS Settings (Woodpecker, Robin) for how to copy a BIOS from a Master Robin module to other modules.
- Store image or data onto the SSD on the Robin.
- Store image or data onto any mass storage attached to Robin in a system.
By default, Robin is set to boot from IDE. Two devices are connected to the internal IDE port on the Robin:
- SSD assembled on Robin
- SATA port on the CoM Express connector (over IDE to SATA bridge on Robin)
Important: BIOS will not skip a IDE (Robin SSD or external SATA) device if the device is connected but no valid boot image available on it. This means, that the SSD on Robin will block the boot process if no SATA device is present and no other device has higher boot priority, causing a hang at: "Verifying the DMI Pool ....".
The following possibilities exist to boot Robin during manufacturing to perform one or several of the above listed tasks.
Using the SATA is straight forward. During manufacturing, a SATA storage can be attached to Robin and the module can be switched on and will boot directly from the SATA drive, containing a initialization image.
Using USB as boot media is not straight forward. The BIOS must be reconfigured. There are three possibilities to change the boot order:
- Enter the BIOS (press DEL on Keyboard) and set the boot order as needed. (Setting will be stored)
- Enter the boot menu (press ESC on Keyboard) and set the boot order as needed. The Setting will be lost after a reboot. This may be done without a screen once the key order (ESC - n x arrow keys - Enter) has been figured out.
- boot from a external BIOS with correctly set boot order. Toradex provides an expansion board for Daisy with an external BIOS on it [[Bumblebee]].
