Desktop and Start Menu are subfolders in the \Windows Folder. These folders are located in RAM, so there is no direct way to add any permanent files or shortcuts to these locations.

We have built an AutoCopy feature into our Windows CE image to get around this limitation:

  • To copy a file to your Desktop Folder at boot, put it into the folder: \FlashDisk\AutoCopy\Windows\Desktop\.
  • To copy a file to your Programs Folder at boot, put it into the folder: \FlashDisk\AutoCopy\Windows\Programs\.
